Rio 2016: US women in Olympic volleyball Upset By Serbia



The top-ranked U.S. women's volleyball team were expected to be in the finals but the Serbians have other things in mind surprising the Americans with a 20-25, 25-17, 25-21, 16-25, 15-13 victory. Players form Serbia said that it is the biggest win in their program’s history, and since they have reached the finals it guarantee the country’s first women’s volleyball medal.

The U.S. team were leading 12-10 in the 5th set when Karsta Lowe served into the net, then Milena Rasic of Serbia hit them with an ace and U.S. middle blocker Rachael Adams also netted her serve.

The top two teams which were expected compete in finals, the U.S. and Brazil were ousted from the title contention. U.S. beaten by Serbia and the two-time defending Olympic champion Brazil was ousted in a stunning five-setter by China in the quarterfinals. Serbia will be facing a young Chinese team led by former U.S. coach Jenny Lang Ping. China defeated Netherlands in the semifinals with a hard fought 3 sets to 1 victory.
