Top ranked USC Beach Volleyball team Beat Long Beach

USC Beach Volleyball


The USC Trojans start off the 2016 season with a win against 4th ranked Long Beach State 49ers 3-2 on the sands of Zuma Beach on Sunday, March 6. The USC ended the opening weekend with 3 wins over top 10 teams and a single loss to No. 2 Pepperdine. 

Trojans juniors Nicolette Martin and Allie Wheeler were able to get a 15-8 win in the final frame. Martin and Wheeler took out Jenelle Hudson and Ciana Wagner, 21-10, 16-21, 15-8, to put the final point on the board and clinch the dual for USC.

Long Beach State scored the first point of the dual on a win at court two as Rachel Nieto and Kobi Pekich defeated USC's duo of junior Sophie Bukovec and senior Alexa Strange in straight sets, 21-18, 21-12. The Trojans responded from the top court where juniors Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes took out Nele Barber and Sammee Thomas in two sets, 21-17, 22-20.

USC sophomore Jenna Belton and freshman Abril Bustamante combined for a 21-19, 23-21 win over Zoi Konstantopoulou and Mykah Wilson. Long Beach State were able to put the pressure on the Trojans when Megan Kruidhof and Morea Wagner earned a 22-20, 21-16 win over USC's tandem of sophomore Jo Kremer and senior Zoe Nightingale. With the dual tied, 2-2, Martin and Wheeler sealed USC's victory with their win at court three.
