Washington Huskies (3) Topped Stanford Cardinal (6) in four sets
Washington Huskies showed everyone what they got and was aggressive in applying pressure and well executed blocking scheme to dispatch No. 6 Stanford Cardinal in four sets (3-1) Thursday night in front of 3,697 at Alaska Airlines Arena. Huskies are now looking every bit like a team that could make a serious run at a national title.
Washington came from a shaky start losing the first set 25-23, then getting thinks in order and took the final three sets by scores of 25-18 in sets two and three, and 25-15 in set four for a 3-1 victory.
Senior Lianna Sybeldon had 11 of her 17 kills in the final two sets perfectly. Fellow middle Melanie Wade tied a career high with 11 kills, and sophomore outside hitter Tia Scambray also posted 11. Wade recorded eight block assists.
