AAU beach volleyball tour 2014
The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) said that interests in beach volleyball is rising. According to Gino Grajeda (President and Tour Director of the Southern Pacific Volleyball Committee), there is a significant increase in participants Southern California, that also resulted in rise in the number of beach clubs, tournaments and interest in the IBVL (Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League).
Grace Campbell of Manhattan Beach won championships in the girls 18U division in two consecutive local tournaments said “The competition on the AAU Tour is tremendous." "There are a lot of local girls and the matches are very competitive with most. Now we are getting more teams from out of state who provide good competition. Seeing new talent really keeps up on our toes.”
Campbell is from Marymount High School’s indoor and beach volleyball teams together with her teammate Mia Merino (Tustin) they won their 2nd straight Tachikara Classic championship last June 14, 2014 by beating Samantha Manley and Savannah Rennie from San Diego in the girls 18U championship match in Hermosa Beach. Campbell and Merino won the 16U title in 2013.
