Iran’s volleyball team defeated Serbia 3-2 in 2013 FIVB World League
It was Iran's first victory in the 2013 FIVB World League against Serbia. The Iranian national volleyball team beat Serbia 3-2 (25-20, 24-26, 23-25,25-22,15-12) in a home match at Azadi sports complex in capital Tehran on Sunday.
Iran took a 7-3 lead at the beginning of the first set, but later tied at 12. However, they managed to finish the first set 25-23.
The Iranian were very close to winning the second set, but they lost it to the Serbs 24-26. The third set was also finished 23-25 a win for the Serbians, but Iran compose themselves and came back from behind to win the fourth set 25-22, and the final 15-12 to seal the victory.
Hamzeh Zarrini was Iran’s top scorer with 18 points from 54 attempts, and in the Serbian camp, Nikola Kovacevic made 17 points from 58 total attempts.
Iran, which is in Pool B along with Italy, Russia, Serbia, Germany, and Cuba, is in the fifth spot of the table with three points.
In other matches of the day, in Pool A France beat Poland 3-2, and Bulgaria defeated Argentina 3-1, in Pool B, Germany hit Cuba 3-1, and in Pool C, Netherlands blanked Portugal 3-0.
The Iranians already lost two matches against Russia, and one against Serbia.
The Iranian volleyball players will face Italy on June 28.
